Emily is continually inspired by nature, and so is my jewelry.

I started out making jewelry several years ago, when I bought a necklace that I wanted to be able to wear wrapped around twice, but it didn’t have a clasp. That led me into the jewelry making section of the craft store, and when I looked around and saw how many possibilities there were, I was totally hooked.

When I started making jewelry, I was traveling a lot for work, and for one trip, I packed up my “Jewelry Making for Dummies” book and my little box of all my tools and supplies, and then I’d sit in my hotel room in London and muddle my way through another project. Â Now, I’d need a whole extra suitcase to even begin to take all my tools and supplies! Â (I also no longer refer to the Jewelry Making for Dummies book.)

As I learned more about making jewelry, I realized that I could start taking all the little swirls and flowers and doodles that I continually drew in meetings and use them as inspiration for making new necklaces, earrings and bracelets. Now, I’ll show up to work in a new piece I’ve made, and people say, “Hey, I recognize that — I saw you drawing it the other day!”

I work in silver, copper and brass, and love spirals, circles and leaf and flower shapes in particular. I like things that look old and loved, and things that look like they could one day be old and loved.

I make everything in my studio in Redmond, WA, and it is all wire-wrapped, sawed, soldered, sanded, polished and finished by me. If you live in the Seattle area and want a studio tour, please email me — I love to show it off!

Hi! Â My name is Rachel Cole, and I named my business New Moon Charms after the book Emily of New Moon.
